Fifi’s life almost ended last December. 😢 She was taken to a vet, weak and suffering from bloody diarrhea, and her owners were ready to say goodbye. What they didn’t know—or didn’t care to consider—was that Fifi was carrying life inside her. She was just two weeks away from delivering 12 precious puppies. Thankfully, the vet couldn’t bear the thought of euthanizing this beautiful senior pitbull mix and convinced the owners to surrender her instead.

Fifi’s body was exhausted from years of breeding, her 8-year-old uterus stretched beyond its limits. After receiving treatment for her infection, Fifi came into the loving arms of #GMDAP. But the battle was far from over. When she went into labor, her tired body simply couldn’t do what it needed to. She was rushed into emergency surgery, where 12 puppies were delivered by C-section. It was a heartbreaking and exhausting ordeal, but Fifi was a fighter. 💪

Not every puppy survived—one angel-baby ☹️ was lost at birth, and we mourned the passing of three more over the first couple of days. 😭 Yet, despite the odds, eight beautiful, healthy puppies survived. And while Fifi’s body had been through so much, her heart never gave up. She loved those puppies fiercely, and thanks to the incredible care provided by Geauga Mama Dogs and Pups, each one of her babies found a forever home filled with love.

But Fifi’s story didn’t end there. After all she had endured, she was still waiting for her own happy ending. That’s when my daughter stepped in. She saw what we all saw—Fifi’s gentle spirit, her resilient heart—and asked to adopt her. My grandchildren, who had helped care for Fifi during her recovery, had already fallen head over heels in love. And so, Fifi found her forever family too.

Now, Fifi lives the life she always deserved, adored by four children who dote on her every day. Her mornings are spent lounging in the bed of the last one to rise, and her afternoons filled with naps on the couch, with her 3-year-old St. Bernard stepbrother, Moose, by her side. Despite her senior age, she still enjoys a playful game of “keep away” with a small football, her tail wagging with joy.

Fifi’s journey from near death to a life of comfort and love is a reminder of what can happen when people choose to care. Without the generosity of people like you, stories like Fifi’s wouldn’t be possible.
